“How to add my web site to Google?” - it seems to be the most frequently asked questions by people who have just heard the word “SEO” or “web positioning”. There are two possibilities to add your web site to the most popular search engine - Google:

  1. submit the site using the form on www.google.com/addurl;
  2. put links on other web sites so that the crawler could follow them and get to your web site and index it.

Actually, submiting your web site via the form on Google site will not be effective unless there are some web sites linking to yours. Back links are the most important thing in indexing your web site and putting it on high places on the lists of results. However, if your web site is a flash one or it contains frames, some problems with indexing it may occur. If you check the source of such a web site, you will see no content but, for example, metatags and that is what crawlers see. Why should they index this site if it contains no content? To avoid such a situation, provide alternative menu and the summary text and put it on the main site. As the exception proves the rule, I have seen web sites with no content which were indexed in Google.

Remember to add your web site to DMOZ which is the most important directory for Google. After your site has been submitted to DMOZ, Google may display the description on your web site taken from DMOZ instead of metatags. If you want it to display the description from your metatags, read webmaster tips on www.google.com/support/webmasters/.
